For Project 15, Urs Fischer created a new installation on Sydney Harbour’s storied Cockatoo Island, an eerie, dreamlike collection of sculptures invoking the island’s long and tragic past as a prison and shipyard.
Visitors to the island were greeted in the central courtyard by sinuous, branch-like forms shaped from fragile, ivory-coloured fibreglass and suspended mid-air. Moving through the installation, visitors explored the empty rooms of the former prison, searching for each work in an atmosphere of suspense.
