Project Overview
Richard Long’s 1977 Kaldor project was the first of several works connected to the Australian landscape. For Project 7, he undertook A straight hundred mile walk in Australia outside Broken Hill, and created A line in Australia at a nearby unknown location.
Long presented two major museum works in Sydney and Melbourne. Nine tonnes of blue metal stone formed the monumental Stone line at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Bushwood circle was constructed from gum and tea-tree branches in the National Gallery of Victoria’s Murdoch Court.
A series of Long’s photographs from the project formed the basis of a 1978 book published by John Kaldor Art Projects.
